This painting is inspired by the tidal flats around Kirkudbright and in particular “The Dhoon” at Nun Mills Bay.
I start off by incorporating pieces of fabric and paper onto the canvas to create texture and interest. These scraps have particular meaning to the place or things that were going on in my life at the time. I see this as a form of catharsis as they will become obscured by the layers of paint and eventually become meaningless.
The edges of this canvas are painted so it does not need a frame.
